This print shows Howth Penninsula, situated in the north of Dublin Bay,
as indicated in the reference to Dublin Bay, Captain Grenville
Collins’ sea chart of 1693. The map includes: the Howth tram, the last
tram in Dublin, dismantled in 1959 before the opening of the LUAS, the
new tram system, in 2004.
The map also shows Howth Castle, the seat of the St. Lawrence family,
Howth village and harbour, Ireland’s Eye island on the north, a section
of Bull Island, the Bailey lighthouse, and the word “Yes”. “Yes” is the
last word of the final episode of Ulysses, as Molly Bloom recalls
the answer she made to Leopold Bloom’s proposal of marriage on Howth Head.
